PREPARE YOUR FLIGHTS
Google-Flights-Logo.jpg
Google flights  have just started their apps recently and seem very popular. We have not use their services yet but we heard it was good. It will give you notifications when flights are full and will suggest the cheapest rates available.

Most of our flight bookings was with Skyscanner. Best when you can see where you can fly for cheap. It will also lets you search within a full month if you have flexible dates. Skyscanner can also allow you  to choose an entire country to fly.

Another good comparison website for flights that save you some money. cheapOair is also a global search site that checks low-cost airlines lowest rates.

Trip Advisor is one of the popular provider that also has a good reputation particularly in Asia.
BOOKING YOUR ACCOMMODATION
Booking.com.gif
We find that Booking.com has the best rates for booking accommodation  in the US but not overseas. They do have good selection of accommodation all over the world. So far, all our bookings through them are  excellent.

HotelsCombined search discounted rates from  all the top search sites. They never disappoint us yet so check them out. It also has some of the lowest rates for hotels.
When I travel solo, I prefer to stay at Hostel as it is not only cheaper but you meet people from all over the world. You can find cheap accommodation at HostelWorld and the selection is one of the best in the web.
If you prefer to live like a local, Airbnb have apartments and homes for rentals. Some of the properties are awesome but comes with a price. We have not tried their services yet but we have family and friends who booked with them and like it.

We made a mistake by not making our booking arrangement to hire a car in Naples, Italy before leaving the US. Auto Europe is one of the cheapest car rental booking service that can save you time and money, so don't leave home without making your booking  first. Take your pick of all major brands including Budget, Hertz, Dollar, Alamo, Avis, Europcar, National and Sixt.
PACKING GUIDES
This is the tricky part as  it involves many questions. When to go, what type of trip, and which part of the world, need visas? how much to spend? accommodation? safety?

You can also purchase some of those forgotten - needed packing accessories online with Alibaba.com especially if your are already traveling in Asia.
STAY CONNECTED
Make sure you have Skype. A few years ago, I called home from Laos and it only cost more than a dollar - not bad eh!
PLAN YOUR TRAVEL

Another good resource for planning your next travel destination.
TOUR COMPANIES
If you prefer to see the sights on a local guided tour, BigBus is for you. They are well organized and have tours in major cities all over the world.
DIGITAL RESOURCES
MacPro.jpg
My MacBook Pro is about ten years old but still good. I did change my hard drive and batteries twice already during that time. My MacBook Pro has traveled all over the world and let me do all my work anywhere I am.
Iphone.jpg
iPhone is another gear you really have when you are traveling. You do need to buy the unlocked model and a local SIM card to make it work overseas. The latest model has a great camera and take excellent photos.
Nikon D3000
I bought my old camera from Ebay for $80. With the advent of softwares, all you need is a model that works and shoots long distance. For an old Nikon model, it is still a very good camera.
I only use my GoPro for a back-up shoot. It has both a camera and video.
ScanDisk 32GB Memory Card
GoPro
TRAVEL GUIDEBOOKS
We use both Lonely Planet and Rough Guides. For my Indonesian trip, I have a Rough Guides book supplemented by my friend Endo's,  Japanese budget guidebook.
