Manarola

TwoMonkeyme's paternal family came from Southern Italy. She had been to Italy before but never to this area. We heard that it was very beautiful and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, so we decided we should visit this place. LittleMonkeyme and Anna arranged for our accommodation in La Spezia, a five minute train ride from Cinque Terre. We stayed there for 3 nights and make it our base for checking out Cinque Terre. La Spezia is a very pleasant town itself with its own charm and delicious food.

RioMaggiore

Our accommodation was perfect and walking distance from the train station for Cinque Terre. Our first day was spent on checking out RioMaggiore and then proceeding to Manarola. The trails on this part were closed so we were not able to do the hike. The landscape is so beautiful - the houses built on the cliff, and gardens overlooking the sea. The dry stone walls are said to have been built during medieval times.

Varnazza

We decided to go directly to Monterosso the next day. This time, we were lucky - we were able to hike all the way to Vernazza and Corniglia.

Monterosso

The hike is not that strenuous and the views are spectacular ( so we kept on stopping to snap ( like we always do ) pictures, and the sea breeze was so refreshing.

The view from Corniglia

We manage to see all five towns that make up the Cinque Terre. Our time was so full of beautiful memories. Cinque Terre should be in your itinerary if ever you visit Italy. It is so magical.
