Hanoi is the capital of Vietnam and it's full of tourist attractions and landmarks. There are a lot of museums, parks, lakes and cathedrals that are some of the most popular destinations for tourists.



Halong Bay, Hanoi

One of the most must-see places when you are in the area of Hanoi is the Halong bay which

is one of the newest natural wonders of the world. It is located in the northeast part of

Vietnam and it's about 3 and a half hours away from the capital city. The bay is known for

the emerald sea water and the huge amount of islands that are nearby (about 3000). There

are also plenty of caves and beaches in the area that you can enjoy.



Ninh Binh

Some of the many beautiful things that you must explore in the area of Ninh Binh are Tam Coc (landscape) and Van Long (nature reserve).



Hon Kiem Lake

If you love lakes and temples, then you are in for a treat. The Hon Kim Lake includes a lake, a temple and even a bridge and a tower. The small island is covered with a wooden bridge and the tower is located on the other island.It's one of the main tourist attractions in the Hanoi area because of its location and it is rich in a lot of history that dates back to the 15th century.



St. Joseph's Cathedral

This church was created back in the 19th century and it has a very Roman and Gothic design. The construction began in 1886 and it was finished just a few months later. This is the oldest church in the area of Hanoi, Vietnam and it's one of the main points of interest for lovers of churches and other astonishing buildings. What makes the cathedral so special is the architecture which is reminiscent of the famous Notre Dame in Paris, France.



Ha Giang

Ha Giang is one of the most majestic places in Hanoi and it's one of the most magnificent landscapes in the entire country of Vietnam. Millions of people choose this as one of the Hanoi places to go because of the natural beauty that's covered in green. The only cons about the landscape Ha Giang is its location as it is not so close to Hanoi and the road to it could be a bitwinding. However, it's all worth it once you are there as you can easily seethe huge mountains and the deep valleys that make Ha Giang such an amazing place.



Imperial Citadel

A citadel that it's rich in history and is truly a one of a kind monument. That is what the Imperial Citadel is all about. The Imperial Citadel of Thang Long is one of UNESCO's covered heritage sites in Vietnam. It is 40 meters high and plays a big role in Hanoi's culture and history. In the citadel you can easily witness artefacts that date back from the 6th century.



Hanoi Opera House

Another one of the monuments that is located in the heart of the French Quarter is the elegant Hanoi Opera House. It was built back in 1911 and it was modelled after Paris' Opera House. The landmark has thousands of visitors every day and is one of the cultural monuments in Hanoi. Some of the things that you can see there are the Vietnamese opera, music concerts and dancing performances.



Temple of Literature

Another one of the monuments that is located in the heart of the French Quarter is the elegant Hanoi Opera House. It was built back in 1911 and it was modelled after Paris' Opera House. This extraordinary place was originally built to study people from the Chinese sage and it is dedicated to the Chinese philosopher and scholar Confucius. There are a lot of places near the opera such as pavilions, shrines and a garden. A lot of performances and ceremonies are known to take place in the 1000 years old temple as well.



Hoan Kiem Lake

Also known as the Turtle Lake, the Hoan Kiem Lake and Ngoc Son is a very popular place for tourists to hang out both in the day and night. What make sit so special is the atmosphere of the place which shines even brighter at night with all the lights that are surrounding it. This small island is located in the heart of Hanoi and it's truly one of the many points of interest in the city.Usually, the lake is free to visit, however, if you want to visit the Ngoc Son Temple there is a fee which is about 20,000 VDN.


Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum

Another landmark in Hanoi, Vietnam that is rich in art, culture and history is the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. If you are in the Ba Dinh area, you should definitely visit it. The list of things that you could enjoy in and around the mausoleum is very long. The mausoleum is one of the newest attractions in Hanoi as it was constructed back in the 1970s. What is interesting about the sculpture and architecture of the monument is that it is reminiscent of Lenin's Moscow mausoleum.



Ba Vi National Park

The Ba Vi National Park is one of a kind nature reserve. It is a place that is literally two hours away from Hanoi and it's one of the most beautiful places in the area. If you are looking for places to visit near Hanoi and you want to enjoy the beautiful nature then this is the one. There is a huge variety of flora and fauna that could be seen and there are a lot of mountains that look truly spectacular.
